WordPress New Plugin: Index Now

IndexNow Plugin for WordPress enables automated submission of URLs from WordPress sites to multiple search engines without the need to register and verify your site with them. Once installed, the plugin will automatically generate and host the API key on your site. It detects page creation/update deletion in WordPress and automatically submits the URLs in the background. This ensures that search engines will always have the latest updates about your site. This plugin submits URLs to a generic endpoint ‘https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow’ and these URLs are shared with all participating search engines

Some other handy features are included in the plugin:

  • Toggle the automatic submission feature.
  • Manually submit a URL to IndexNow.
  • View list of recent URL submissions from the plugin.
  • Retry any failed submissions from the recent submissions list.
  • Download recent URL submissions for analysis.
  • Status on recent successful and failed submissions
  • You can browse the code at the GitHub repository

This plugin was developed with love and coffee by the Bing Webmaster team.

It has been a year since Microsoft’s Bing team partnered with Russian search engine Yandex to create and launch IndexNow. This is a new tool that allows website admins to tell search engines about changes to the content on a site. Microsoft and Yandex are now updating the tool to make it more useful.

This expediates a process that previously required the search engine to discover those content changes on its own. IndexNow is ideal because it provides a simple way for site owners to make direct contact with the engine.

Because IndexNow is open source, it works across multiple browsers and not just Bing and Yandex. The tool is a unique collaboration between Microsoft and the largest search provider in Russia. On the homepage for the tool, the companies explain how it can make indexing more efficient:

“Without IndexNow, it can take days to weeks for search engines to discover that the content has
changed, as search engines don’t crawl every URL often. With IndexNow, search engines know
immediately the “URLs that have changed, helping them prioritize crawl for these URLs and thereby limiting organic crawling to discover new content.””

In a new update, Bing and Yandex are adding an IndexNow Plugin for WordPress. With addition,
WordPress sites can install the plugin and automate URL submissions from their WordPress site to
several different search engines.
IndexNow Plugin automatically detects page updates, creations, and deletions on a WP site and then submits the URL to browsers. This all happens without the site owner/admin needing to do anything.

Did you know that your data and privacy might be at risk if you run Windows without encryption? A bootable USB with a live-linux distribution is often just enough to gain access to all of your files.
If you want to change that, check out our detailed BitLocker guide where we show you how to turn on encryption for your system disk or any other drive you might be using in your computer.
